Taj Burrow and Travis Logie make it into the semi-finals at O?Neill Coldwater Classic
Australia?s Taj Burrow and South Africa?s Travis Logie advanced to the semi-finals at the O?Neill Coldwater Classic, the ninth of ten stops on the 2012 Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) World Championship Tour, after claiming top honours in their respective quarter-final heats that went down at Santa Cruz in California, America, on Tuesday, November 6.
Burrow got the better of Brazil?s Gabriel Medina in the first quarter-final, bringing the solid run by the latter during the event to an end while confirming his own place in the semi-finals.
The second quarter-final saw Logie continue his impressive form to down Australia?s Joel Parkinson, eliminating the latter from the competition while advancing through into the next stage of the event himself.
The point-break of Steamer Lane was proving to be really hard to tame on the final day of the latest elite tour event, with the sea refusing to give surfers enough reward without making them work really hard for it.
Burrow, however, adapted to the conditions pretty well during the first quarter-final that pitted him against Medina.
As the battle between experience and energy got underway, it was the former who dealt the first blow with a 5.83-point ride.
Burrow went on to assert his dominance over his rival even further with an impressive 8.00-point ride, which carried him to a heat-total of 13.83 points.
Medina failed to come up with a counter-attack and only managed to get to a heat-total of 8.60 points, which included a 4.67 and 3.93-point ride, thus conceding the semi-final slot to his rival.
The second quarter-final saw Logie take on Parkinson, current No.1 on the ASP World Championship Tour, in a battle to determine who would get to step into the semi-finals.
As the heat got underway, Parkinson got off to a solid start, locking his first business-wave early in the heat to reap an 8.33 off it. He soon followed it up with a 4.67-point ride, thus getting to a heat-total of 13.00 points.
Logie took his time to adapt to the waves before beginning his charge, which enabled him to register a 6.33 and 7.50-point ride, consequently carrying him to a winning heat-total of 13.83 points.
